Don Whitley Scientific (DWS) develops, manufactures, and sells equipment and associated products for microbiology and cell culture applications worldwide. We sell to both public and private sectors in a variety of scientific disciplines.
We are a family-owned business which was established in 1976 and are based in Bingley, West Yorkshire.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Production Engineer / Technician to work within our on-site based Production Department.
Role Purpose:
The role is based within a fast-paced production department, with a supportive culture and an emphasis on teamwork and continued professional development and training. The role holder will be required to manufacture high quality DWS products in an efficient manner, including ancillary components and assemblies.
Responsibilities:
- Production of sub-assemblies and connector cable assemblies which include schematics.
- Assist with general production activities where required. This will include assembly of DWS cabinets and potentially smaller products in the DWS range.
- Applying knowledge of product design, mechanics, assembly, tooling and materials as required.
- To ensure all relevant Health and Safety and COSHH regulations are adhered to.
- To assist in ensuring the standards set by the Company Quality Policy are achieved including checking and inspection of DWS and external supplier parts.
- Put forward ideas to support the continual improvement within the department.
- Communicate effectively with all colleagues, both within Production and other departments.
- Deliver training and mentoring to production colleagues.
- Support production colleagues as required and help to maintain a happy, efficient environment.
Qualifications, Experience & Attributes:
- BTEC Level 3 (desirable but not essential)
- Skilled / semi-skilled engineering or production assembly background
- Experience of working within a mechanical engineering production department
- Ability to follow drawings and schematic diagrams
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
- Ability to follow processes, procedures, and work instructions including QA inspection
- Good communication skills, high standards and an eye for detail
- A positive work ethic with a can-do attitude
- Team focussed
- Coachable and open to development
