UKAS Calibration and Validation

Got a Question? Request a Callback

In today’s increasingly regulated environment, the need to demonstrate on-going compliance with quality and safety standards is becoming part of life in the laboratory.

To provide you with 100% confidence in your processes and ensure your equipment and procedures will stand up to scrutiny, DWS offers UKAS calibration and validation services for heat sterilisation equipment, temperature-controlled processes, temperature indicators and non-automatic weighing machines.

This flexible onsite and offsite service is undertaken by our team of experts who will take the time to explain the work they carry out. If you are a service contract customer, we can schedule your UKAS calibration and validation work to take place at the same time as routine servicing to save you the cost of call outs and project delays.

DWS is accredited by UKAS to BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for:

  • Temperature calibration within the range -90°C to 650°C.
  • Non-automatic weighing instrument calibration within the range 0-9kg.

Temperature Calibration & Validation

Since the introduction of ISO 15189:2012 ‘Medical Laboratories – Requirements for Quality and Competence’, which has replaced the Clinical Pathology Accreditation (CPA), we have seen a large increase in the number of laboratories seeking temperature mapping services for their anaerobic workstations. In order to comply with this new clinical standard, laboratories must have a documented procedure for the calibration of equipment that directly or indirectly affects examination results.

UKAS Temperature Mapping Services

Don Whitley Scientific provides UKAS accredited temperature mapping and calibration services from -90°C to +150°C for a wide range of laboratory equipment. Our engineers help pharmaceutical, healthcare, research and manufacturing organisations verify that temperature-controlled equipment performs consistently throughout its operating range, supporting compliance with recognised quality standards.

Temperature mapping services are available for:

Temperature mapping is increasingly required to demonstrate compliance with standards such as ISO 15189, GMP and other quality management systems. Using calibrated reference equipment and up to 12 thermocouples, we accurately assess temperature uniformity and provide comprehensive UKAS certification where applicable, giving you confidence in the performance of your equipment.

Whether you require routine validation or support for accreditation, our UKAS accredited calibration laboratory provides a reliable, traceable service to help maintain compliance and reduce risk.

UKAS High Temperature Mapping Services

Don Whitley Scientific provides UKAS accredited high temperature calibration services from +150°C to +650°C, supporting laboratories and manufacturers that rely on accurate temperature measurement for critical processes.

Our ISO 17025 temperature calibration services cover a wide range of high-temperature equipment, including:

  • Furnaces
  • Laboratory ovens
  • Dry block calibrators
  • Temperature probes
  • Temperature sensors

Using traceable reference standards, our experienced engineers verify equipment accuracy across its operating range and provide UKAS certification to support regulatory compliance, quality assurance and audit requirements.

Whether you require a one-off high temperature calibration or ongoing scheduled calibration as part of a preventative maintenance programme, our engineers deliver accurate, reliable and fully traceable calibration services throughout the UK.

Weight Calibration

Non-Automatic Weighing Machine Calibration

We are also accredited for the calibration of non-automatic weighing machines, such as gravimetric diluters and balances – total combined weight up to 9kg.  Calibration will give you confidence in the ability of your weighing equipment, ensuring that drifts have not occurred for any reason and that the device is working correctly. It will also ensure that inaccurate weighing is not causing unnecessary costs for your organisation and continue to be both efficient and economical.

Whilst other companies may be able to claim a similar service provision, our service engineers are not only highly trained to perform calibration/validations, but they are also trained by the manufacturers to maintain and repair a range of laboratory equipment. We have engineers based throughout the UK so we can usually respond rapidly to requests. We also consider ongoing training a necessary part of an engineer’s role and, to facilitate this, have bespoke training facilities at our headquarters in West Yorkshire.

Why not arrange your calibration at the same time as your annual service? This will save you money and reduce downtime in your lab. We also offer multi-service and multi-product discounts to make our service as cost-effective as possible.

FAQ's

What is UKAS accredited calibration?

UKAS accredited calibration is calibration carried out by a laboratory accredited to BS EN ISO/IEC 17025. Accreditation demonstrates technical competence, traceability and compliance with internationally recognised standards, providing confidence in the accuracy of your measurements.

What is the difference between calibration and validation?

Calibration verifies the accuracy of a measuring instrument by comparing it against a known standard. Validation demonstrates that a process or piece of equipment consistently performs as intended. Many organisations require both to meet regulatory and quality requirements. Check out our video below for more information!

What temperature range can Don Whitley Scientific calibrate?

We provide UKAS accredited temperature calibration from -90°C to +650°C, covering both low-temperature laboratory equipment and high-temperature industrial applications.

Do you provide onsite calibration?

Yes. We offer both onsite and offsite UKAS calibration services. Wherever possible, calibration can be scheduled alongside routine servicing to minimise downtime and reduce costs.

How often should laboratory equipment be calibrated?

The required calibration frequency depends on the equipment, its use, manufacturer recommendations and your quality management system. Many organisations choose annual calibration, while critical equipment may require more frequent verification.

What certification will I receive?

Following calibration, you'll receive a UKAS certificate (where applicable) together with a detailed calibration report providing traceable evidence for audits and compliance.

Can calibration and servicing be completed during the same visit?

Yes. If you have a Don Whitley Scientific service contract, calibration can often be carried out during your scheduled service visit, reducing downtime, call-out costs and disruption.
