Trefor Morris is Lead Biomedical Scientist at the UK Anaerobe Reference Unit (UKARU) and has over 20 years’ experience working at the forefront of clinical anaerobic microbiology.  Having trained under leading pioneers in the field, including Professor Brian Duerden, Dr Jon Brazier and Dr Val Hall, Trefor has played a key role in advancing the identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing of anaerobic bacteria.  He is a strong advocate for maintaining robust fundamental anaerobic microbiology skills alongside evolving technologies, ensuring high diagnostic standards across clinical laboratories.  Through UKARU, Trefor actively supports and educates scientists and clinicians, including delivering the annual Practical and Clinical Microbiology of Anaerobes (P&CMAn) course, helping to drive improved, standardised practice in anaerobic bacteriology.  He is also the Deputy Secretary of the C. Diff Trust, a charity launched to the public in October 2025 to end the harmful impact of Clostridioides difficile infection and to advocate for patients.
