Paul Walton, our Managing Director and Fergus Murray, our Product Engineering Manager at Don Whitley Scientific often moonlight as members of local band ‘The Alligators’.
On Saturday, 6th July The Alligators played at a charity event hosted by Paul’s wife Judith. Here’s a photo of the band – their mix of blues and rock numbers proved extremely popular with the crowd and by the end of the night everyone was dancing.
The evening of entertainment was to help Judith raise money to complete an amazing yet gruelling cycling event – the UK’s most successful women-only cycle challenge to fund groundbreaking medical research work. She will have to cycle approximately 400kms over five days in Sri Lanka later this year (and will do the same in Zanzibar in 2014). Funds raised will support scientists and clinicians to specialise in research affecting women and babies to improve prevention, diagnosis and the treatment of a range of devastating conditions that cause miscarriage, genetic diseases, infertility and cancer.
With the hard work of the band, the raffle ticket sellers, the supplier of the midnight snack, all the kind people who attended and, of course, of Judith herself, I am happy to report that the event raised a massive £1,100 pounds.
The name of the challenge is ‘Women for Women’ and it is administered by Genesis Research Trust. Professor Robert Winston is Chairman of both the Trust and Women for Women and Fern Britton is Women for Women’s Patron.
